HEDE BÜHL
Florales Köpfchen, Polished bronze, 11 x 10,5 x 15 cm, 2005 (Edition 1/6)

The work of Hede Bühl (born 1940) is characterised by clearly definable groups of works which – almost exclusively – take the human figure as their subject. The artist is not concerned with individual expression, but rather with fundamental sculptural questions. The largest group in her body of work, in terms of numbers, consists of head sculptures, which are made of stone, bronze and, more rarely, aluminium, lead or plastic. On the one hand, they are reduced to the simplest basic forms; on the other, they are accentuated by stretches, curves, bands and clamps. Viewers are challenged to interpret these works, yet they do not lend themselves conclusively to any single interpretation. They retain their mystery and their ambiguity.
